Indications:

 

  • Hypoglycemia
  • Beta Blocker Overdose
  • Calcium Channel Overdose

 

Administration:

 

  • SQ, IM, IV, IO

 

Contraindications:

 

  • Hypersensitivity
  • Insulinoma
  • Pheochromocytoma

 

Side Effects:

 

  • Relatively free of adverse reaction except for occasional
  • nausea
  • vomiting
  • urticaria
  • respiratory distress
  • hypotension

 

Adult Dose:

 

Altered Mental Status/Diabetic Emergencies, Seizure:

 

  • 1 mg IM/SQ

 

Beta Blocker Overdose:

 

  • 2 mg IV/IO/IM

 

Pediatric Dose:

 

  • 0.1 mg/kg IM
  • Maximum dosage = 1 mg

 

THERAPEUTIC EFFECTS:

 

  • Causes breakdown of glycogen to glucose; inhibits glycogen synthesis; elevates blood glucose level

 

RELATIVE CONTRAINDICATIONS:

 

  • Hypersensitivity
  • Insulinoma
  • Pheochromocytoma

 

SIDE EFFECTS:

 

  • Relatively free of adverse reactions except for occasional nausea and vomiting
  • Urticaria, respiratory distress and hypotension have been reported

 

SPECIAL NOTES / RESTRICTIONS:

 

  • May be repeated 1-2 times if no response in 15-20 minutes
