INDICATIONS:

 

  • Hypovolemic shock
  • Dehydration
  • Burns

 

ADMINISTRATION:

 

  • IV infusion, IO

 

DOSAGE:

 

  • ADULT:

 

    • As indicated by the patient condition and situation being treated

 

  • PEDIATRIC:

 

    • As indicated by the patient condition and situation being treated

 

THERAPEUTIC EFFECTS:

 

  • Source of electrolytes
  • Increase circulating volume

 

RELATIVE CONTRAINDICATIONS:

 

  • Congestive heart failure
  • Renal failure

 

SIDE EFFECTS:

 

  • Rare

CLASSIFICATION:

  • Isotonic crystalloid Normal saline or lactated ringers is the preferred infusion solution during cardiac arrest
