Trauma Activation (2)

 

Trauma Criteria Level 2:

Potential Level 2 (Partial) Alert should be activated on any patient meeting one or more of the following criteria after a traumatic

event:

  1. GCS 12 or 13
  2. Falls > 15 feet or > 5 feet (for pediatrics)
  3. High-speed auto crash (collisions with speed 55 mph or greater).
  4. Pediatric Auto-pedestrian/auto-bicycle injury with significant (5 mph) impact (for peds only)
  5. Adult Auto-pedestrian/auto-bicycle injury with significant (10 mph) impact with injuries
  6. Suspected Pelvic fracture
  7. Suspected Flail chest
  8. >2 open and/or long bone fractures, excluding hands and feet
  9. Thermal injuries including 2nd or 3rd burns between 10% to 20% BSA
  10. Significant neurological deficit (ex. sensory level deficit)
  11. Pregnancy > 20 weeks with significant mechanism of injury (With OB activation)
  12. Discretion of any trauma team member

 

Auto-pedestrian includes: auto/bicycle/motorcycle/moped/ATV/golf cart, etc.

 

High Index of Suspicion / Factors to Consider (For activation or upgrade in activation)

 

  • Age > 55 years with significant mechanism of injury
  • Extrication time > 20 minutes
  • Cardiac or respiratory disease
  • Insulin dependent diabetes
  • Cirrhosis
  • Morbid obesity
  • Pregnancy
  • Immunosuppressed patients
  • Patient with bleeding disorder
  • Patients on anticoagulants
