Diaphenhydramine

(Benadryl)

 

INDICATIONS:

 

  • Anaphylaxis
  • Allergic reactions
  • Urticaria
  • Extrapyramidal reaction

 

DOSAGE:

 

ADULT:

 

  • 25 mg IV/ 50 mg IM

 

PEDIATRIC:

 

  • 1 mg/kg IV/IM; maximum 30 mg

 

CONTRAINDICATIONS:

 

  • Asthma
  • COPD
  • Pregnancy
  • Nursing mothers
  • Acute glaucoma

 

SIDE EFFECTS:

 

  • Sedation
  • Dries bronchial secretions
  • Blurred vision
  • Headache
  • Palpitations
