Midazolam

(Versed)

 

Indications:

 

  • Major Motor Seizures
  • Status Epilepticus
  • Skeletal Muscle Relaxant
  • Acute Anxiety States
  • MFI/RSI & Post intubation sedation
  • Dystonic Reactions

 

Contraindications:

 

  • Respiratory Depression
  • Hypotension
  • ETOH
  • Pregnancy

 

Side Effects:

 

  • Apnea
  • Cardiac Arrhythmias
  • Hypotension

 

Adult Dose:

 

  • MFI/RSI Etomidate Alternative:

 

    • 0.1 mg/kg IV/IO; max dose 8 mg

 

  • Post Airway Sedation:

 

    • 5 mg IV/IO may repeat once in 5-10 mins max 10 mg

 

  • Seizures:

 

    • 10 mg IM or 2.5-5 mg IV

 

  • Chemical Restraint:

 

    • 5 mg IV

 

  • Sedation/Anxiety:

 

    • 1 mg IV repeat once in 2 minutes
    • 5 mg IM, in no IV or IO

 

Pediatric Dose:

 

  • Seizures:

 

    • 0.1 mg/kg IM, maximum 5 mg
